During the rise of the Medical Industrial Complex and its biochemical drugs, a concerted effort occurred with the goal of discrediting and eliminating herbal remedies from popular culture.
In the 1930s, drug companies in the Western world brought profitable, synthetic medicines to the market, naturally eyeing cheap, available herbal products as their primary competition.
Marketing campaigns were developed that portrayed our brethren plants as old-fashioned remedies used by the poor and uneducated. Synthetic drugs were the way of the future and the product of choice for educated and sophisticated individuals.1
Matthew Wood highlights of this time:
“The change from herbalism to commercial drugs is not founded upon ‘science,’ but upon a complex commercial and political platform supporting a materialistic vision of human life. There is no proof that ‘herbs do not work.’ They are simply ignored and ridiculed.”
My thoughts upon reading this passage is that “herbs” can easily be interchanged with “astrology,” therefore representing the struggle of the modern revival of this lost art.
It is not that astrology does not work, it is simply ignored and ridiculed.
Wood goes on to suggest that personal experience by individuals seeking to reclaim responsibility for their own health was a key component in restoring the practice of herbalism in the West.
This resonated deeply with me, and I’ll tell you why.
When I first entered into the study of Fertility Astrology, I didn’t fully believe it would work. (😱)
Intellectually and spiritually—and through the trust of my teacher’s immense portfolio of experience—I believed it could be possible.
But I didn’t yet feel in my body the wisdom of this practice, which could only possibly be integrated through personal experience.
But over the months, a client got pregnant. And then a friend. And then another. And then the messages and comments started pouring in from those who were using How to Calculate Your Fertile Moon Phase to identify their Lunar Fertile Windows for present cycles and past pregnancies.
Then the accounts of miscarriage began to present, and the vibrational impact of the Mars/Moon conjunction were no longer dismissible.
In a short period of time I began to experience a tremendous amount of evidence that has forever changed my relationship with the cosmos and my programming around the possibility that astrology is just a cute little toy that new age folks like to play with.
So my message for you today is really an invitation into the magic of astrology. Perhaps through personal experience we can all become participants in the great revival of this ancient medicinal craft.
