How to Conceive a Girl or a Boy Using Astrology
Learn how to use the Moon to try for a girl or a boy.
You’ve probably heard at least a folklore or two about age-old tricks for conceiving a girl or a boy—and if your grandmother isn’t full of them, the internet certainly is!
But what if you don’t need to eat a specific diet, or lay in an odd position for an eternity after intercourse in order to try for the sex you’re hoping for?
What if… you just need to track the Moon?
The three guiding principles of Fertility Astrology were uncovered in the 1950s by Dr. Eugen Jonas (although records of lunar influence on fertility exist cross-culturally for our ancient ancestresses). One of these principles being that the sex of the baby is influenced by the position of the Moon at the moment of conception.
During one study in which Dr. Jonas reviewed the records of 250 births along with the Mothers’ natal charts, there was an 87% correlation between the sex of the child and lunar positioning.1
HOW TO USE THE MOON
The zodiac sign that the Moon occupies at the moment of conception will influence the sex of the baby based on whether it’s in a masculine sign or a feminine sign.
Male signs are those ruled by the Fire and Air elements, which include Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, and Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
Female signs are those ruled by the Water and Earth elements, which include Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, and Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.
It’s very important to note that the Moon’s placement is relevant to the moment of conception, not the moment of love-making.
In order to accurately make your predictions, you’ll want to remember:
The Moon takes approximately 2.5 days to move through each 30° sign (traveling 1° every two hours).
It takes the majority of the sperm in a single insemination between 15 and 45 minutes to reach an unfertilized egg,2 although they can survive for days in the womb.
An egg is viable for fertilization for approximately 24 hours after ovulation (although the specific mechanics of Fertile Moon Phase conceptions are more mysterious and have been known to occur up to 48 hours after peak activation).
Whether you’re trying to conceive in alignment with ovulation or with your Fertile Moon Phase, keeping tabs on the Moon’s placement will allow you to gauge the likelihood of your conception manifesting as a boy or a girl.
EXAMPLES
Let’s review some Moon placements in action! These charts will show you what it’s like to judge a weak, neutral, or strong position for the moment of intercourse. I use a conservative approach in order to account for Lunar Conceptions.
Here is the Moon at 0° Cancer. That means the Moon will remain in this Water sign for the next 2.5 days, making this a strong placement for conceiving a girl.
Here is the Moon at 15° Sagittarius. That means the Moon is already halfway through this Fire sign, making this a more neutral placement for conceiving a boy.
Here is the Moon at 29° Virgo. That means the Moon is hours away from leaving this Earth sign, making this a very weak placement for conceiving a girl.
Note that the house the Moon is stationed in and its phase (New, Full, etc.) are irrelevant to sex selection. The only thing that matters is the zodiac sign.
