The Moon is an important placement in a Woman’s natal chart.
She is most notable for ruling the womb, but has several other associations as well. The Moon governs the menses, stomach, and breasts, as well as the lungs, marrow, and the membranes that envelope the brain.
For Women she’s an important contributor to the holistic constitution of the body.
Many astrologers and laypeople alike refer to the Moon as a “reflector” (of the Sun’s rays) but I find she’s more of a magnifier, emphasizing the qualities of the signs she occupies and channeling the rate and flow of the vital force throughout the body.
Observing the placement of the Moon and the aspects that challenge her within the chart is a point of interest for myself and my clients. This is where we can pinpoint the needs of your natal Moon, and therefore, your womb and fertility.
NOTABLE MOON PLACEMENTS
ARIES, LEO, SAGITTARIUS
The Moon is notably hot and bothered in these Fire signs, with Aries being the hottest and least welcoming to fertility.
VIRGO, CAPRICORN
These Moons tend to be very dry, which is a quality that contributes to atrophy and difficulty healing. The Moon is at its detriment in Capricorn which indicates her forces, and her organs of rulership, may be weakened.
SCORPIO
The Moon is in her fall in Scorpio, which may weaken or suppress the cooling and moistening qualities she’d otherwise bring to the body.
TAURUS
Taurean Moons are considered the most fertile—indeed, this is where she’s in her exaltation—and bring blessings to a cosmic conception journey.
OTHER ASPECTS
The nature of one’s natal Moon will likely be affected by other aspects occurring within the chart as well. This is particularly relevant when it comes to Saturn and Mars, the former of which can cool and dry the Moon, while the later can heat it up. Conjunctions, squares, and oppositions between these planets are powerful influences and may even override the qualities of the sign that the Moon is placed in.
MOON REMEDIES
It’s not uncommon for Women with fertility challenges to have a difficult Moon placement. I also find our culture tends to celebrate and encourage behaviors and lifestyles that amplify a scattered, undernourished “Moon”. Let’s explore some Moon remedies that can bring balance into your constitution and your cycles.
THE MOON
Lunar qualities can benefit dry or poorly aspected natal Moons. You can work directly with the energies of the Moon by incorporating remedies such as fluids and proper hydration, Water therapies, nourishing broths and herbals, liquid fasts, demulcents, Moon bathing and gazing, and living in cyclical alignment.

These remedies have the potential to be used uniquely and appropriately for all Women regardless of their natal placements since our physiology is so closely linked to Moon lore.
SATURN: A LUNAR ANTIDOTE
Saturn can bring stability and structure to emotional and mental Lunar expressions as well as nutrition in the form of mineral therapies. Embodying Saturnian qualities might involve the integration of routines, discipline, and commitments as well as firm relationship and personal care boundaries. A poorly nourished Moon can benefit from boundaries here as well if the native’s lifestyle is not meeting her body’s requirements for digestion. Minerals in the form of spring and sea water, clay, and salt baths are all very Saturnian.
MARS: A LUNAR ANTIDOTE
A cold Moon may seek the stimulating and hot qualities of Martian energy which can be expressed through movement, weight training, sweating, saunas, and Castor Oil packs.
HERBALS
The Moon governs herbs that tend to be moistening and nutritive, with an affinity for the female reproductive or nervous system. Lunar plants include Mugwort, Milky Oats/Oatstraw, Red Raspberry Leaf, Marshmallow, Plantain, Shatavari, and Licorice. One can also work with herbs ruled by Saturn and Mars, if those energies are indicated.
Lately I’ve been recommending the following nutritive herbs in the form of infusions to assist the body into a calm and nourished space which facilitates self-healing.
