Dear Readers,
As Spring advances into the Mutable Air sign of Gemini, there is a quickening that seems undeniable for those in the Norther Hemisphere. Suddenly there seems to be a lot of gardening to do, fresh herbs and flowers to forage, maybe even Summer plans to be made as Cancer seasons approaches is the distance. This burst of energy is unique from that of Cardinal Aries, and may even have a tinge of anxiety.
Gemini is most known for representing expression and communication. In medical astrology Gemini rules the lungs, and therefore the breath, which facilitates the transportation of sacred messages both into and out of the body.
Last month in The Metaphysics of the Thyroid wisdom share, we highlighted Taurus’s governance over the thyroid as well as tangible Earth-based ways to unblock the energy that get stuck there.
Breathwork can be used to build on these teachings by helping us ground into our own bodies, steady our nervous systems, speak candidly, and open the flow of energy between the lower chakras and the upper chakras.
I have to admit, when I hear the word “breathwork” I tend to check out. It’s never been my tool of choice, and just doesn’t seem to be a modality that draws me in (I mean, have you seen these breathwork people huffing and puffing about?)
As usual, I had to do a bit of stripping down in order to find a way to connect with what is such an obvious building block for life. When we scrub away the wellness industry’s fingerprints, peel back the marketing jargon, and step away from the fancy classrooms and memberships, we can take a step outside and remember that… breathing is free and no one needs to teach you how to do it.
So if you’re anything like me and all this breathwork stuff isn’t really your jam, try one thing today—maybe even while you’re reading this—just take a really deep breath. Not into your chest, but into the bottom of your rib cage.
